New Portable Water Purification Device
30 April 2009 | Green News, Green Technology | No Comments
In a previous post I presented one of the inexpensive ways to purify water, using solar energy(“A basic solar still is a verysimple device. If salty or contamined water is left in an open container, the fresh water will evaporate into the air, separating itself from the salt, dirt, algae, or other organic pollutants in the water.A solar still uses solar energy to speed up the avaporation rate and captures the evaporated water by condensing it onto a cool surface.A solar still, then, is essentially an insulated, dark-colored container or shallow pan, covered by a sheet of clear glass or plastic that is tilted slightly to let the fresh water that condense on it trickle down into a collection through.”http://www.mygreentreasure.com/2009/04/the-sun-can-make-water-safe-to-drink-and-ice-for-many-uses/) .But for few days ago, this invention is competed by a new portable water purification system designed by Ceren Bagatar.Solar Cooking with Hot Pot Solar Oven

As I said in some previous posts, solar energy is a very valuable source of energy, and is among the few things that is not affected by the economic crisis. In some previous posts we presented some basic principles of a solar cooker and many types of existing solar ovens. Now, I will present same type of device in a newer version. This solar oven is similar to a usual parabolic oven but is a little more expensive. A Hot Pot Solar Oven is not more expensive than $100 and if the device is used in a sunny day may reach a temperature of 400 Celsius degrees in less than one hour (Hot Pot Solar Oven is easy to install). You can find it online on specialized sites.
Top 10 Sources of Soil Pollution
24 April 2009 | Green News | 3 Comments
Soil pollution includes all possible processes of soil degradation, as a result of human activities. Soil pollution depends on air pollution and water pollution. Because soil is a source of water and mineral substances, soil pollution affects plants, implicitly animals, people, and biosfere. Soil pollution can be physical, chemical, biological and radioactive.
What is Called as Being Sustainable?
22 April 2009 | Green News | No Comments
The adjective “sustainable” is associated with different terms included under the generous concept – sustainable development. These terms are used in literature, not in a unitary way, so the present text is far from being exhausting.
a)Sustainable system.
To understand the terms in a systemic conception, the concept of “sustainable system” is firstly defined, as the system that survives in a specified period. The sustainable system fulfils the expected life-time, however, no system has an infinite life-time.Thus, the sustainability of systems becomes a matter of predicting a set of surviving conditions for a specified finite time.
b)Sustainable society.
The end of the XX-th century was characterised by the recognition of the trilemma generated by a harmonisation of the economic growth, a distribution of resources and preservation of the environment.A society living in a harmony with nature and with itself is frequently called sustainable society.
c)Sustainable environment.
Sustainable environment – the resources are able to sustain life, health and the development within acceptable limits, on the one hand, and to regenerate itself, on the other one.
d)Sustainable future.
Healthy environment, economic prosperity and social justice, simultaneously responding the purpose of ensuring the well-being and the quality of life for the present and future generations, describe, what is called “sustainable future“.The crucial element to reach this future is education.
Video of How to Build a Magnetic Motor
22 April 2009 | Alternative Energy | 3 Comments
Theoretically speaking, a magnetic motor is a device that converts magnetic energy into mechanical energy. Usually, a magnetic motor produce a rotating motion without using other energy sources. One of the most popular magnetic motor is the Perendev motor and is based on the magnetic rejection principle. This engine has a rotor that rotates around its own longitudinal axis and a set of magnetic sources arranged on a stator around the rotor. In the rotor there are some magnets wich interact with a second set of magnets around the rotor. Inside the rotor and stator there are some holes where are located the magnetic sources. These holes are placed perpendicularly to the rotation axis, and magnetic sources are cylindrical magnets of 360000 Gauss, with 37mm diameter and 75mm length.
