The Coca-Cola Company to get more environmental-friendly

As a consequence of being the world’s largest beverage company, Coca-Cola also holds the record for world’s biggest PET plastic bottles producer. It is known that this polyethylene terephthalate or PET plastic bottles are non-renewable. Less known is that Antimony triacetate is being used in the production of PET plastic which remains in the material and can, in principle migrate out into food and drinks. Although antimony trioxide is of low toxicity, its presence is still of concern to the health.
But things are starting to get “greener”, because the company has recently come up with a new type of bottle: The PlantBottle. As the name suggests, this new type of plastic is plant-based and it will be entirely recycle. Its main building blocks consists of, up to 30 percent plant-based materials but also petroleum-based materials.
Another big advantage of this new technology is that it reduces carbon emissions, thus reducing air pollution, providing a healthier environment and bringing renewable materials a step further, as Muhtar Kent, CEO of The Coca-Cola Company declares: “The ‘PlantBottle’ is a significant development in sustainable packaging innovation. It builds on our legacy of environmental ingenuity and sets the course for us to realize our vision to eventually introduce bottles made with materials that are 100 percent recyclable and renewable.”
Something else worth mentioning about this new material is the fact that it doesn’t require any special processes to recycle it.
