GM is a company that showed with the passage of time a high quality of the produced cars. These high quality of cars will have to be transformed into a greener high quality, because of the need for hybrid cars and electric cars.Tom Stephens, Vice Chairman of General Motors said that by 2012, the company will launch 14 models of hybrid cars, perfect for urban traffic, in all  urban areas in the world.

GM’s attention is currently concentrated on Volt model, a small electric car that will be used also in urban traffic. This electric car will be launched in 2010 and GM say that it will be a huge success.Volt electric car is equipped with a small gas engine for extended-range driving, and for a small quantity of co2 emissions.Another quality of this electric car is taht it can run approximately 40 miles on a single battery charge.

Another electric car model from GM was announced last year when the “plug-in”concept appeared. The launch of this car was stopped because of the decision to abandon the Saturn SUV project.”plug-in” technology was abandoned for Saturn project, but the leaders and engineers from GM have announced that plug-in technology will be developed and applied in the near future to one of the following brands: GMC, Chevy, Buick or Cadillac.

To compete they need to do this and the cars better have way better (or at least the same) mileage then their competition or they will be going through chapter 11 again down the road.
