Shweeb – The Bicycle On A Monorail

31 July 2009 | Green News | No Comments

Shweeb is a interesting new concept, where you push your way in a capsule mounted on a monorail, using only the power of your feet. Built in late 2007 in Roterua, New Zealand, Shweeb is suspended about 4 meters in the air and is 200m  long.  To add more to the excitement, the designers thought it would be more fun if two persons could race one another, so they build two parallel monorails.

So if you like exercises, riding a bike or experiencing some new feelings, remember next time you visit New Zealand, to sure to check the amusement park Agroventures, where Shweeb is located.

The eco-friendly pedal-powered race will me more faster than your regular bicycle ride, the capsule being capable of reaching speeds of 60 km/h ! And not to forget are the chilling 60 degrees turns in corners, that will give you a good adrenaline rush!

The race consists of 3 laps, each taking aprox. 3 and half minutes to finish but perhaps you can beat the world record of 0.57.1 s for men and 1.01.8s for woman ! All the fun costs around $45 for an adult person.

According to the builders, this eco-friendly machine is not only very energy efficient and carbon emissions-free, but its the most inexpensive method of transportation built so far.

It is no doubt a very good idea of transforming today’s crowded cities with a more environmentally-friendly transportation system, that is very cost-efficient. I will not be surprised if I encounter it more often in the near future.
