Many Islands from Pacific Could Disappear in Only Few Years

Global warming is a phenomenon that frightens increasingly more countries, several organizations and many more people. Polluting gases, greenhouse gases, in large quantities can cause an increase in global temperature up to 6 Celsius degrees. This thing could lead to dramatic changes of our planet.

Researchers and scientists have made some assumptions about the effects of global warming, divided on temperature categories. A warming process of 1 Celsius degree means that, glaciers in Greenland could raise only a little over the sea level. An increase of 3 Celsius degrees, means that Amazonian forest will begin to dry and the Arctic will not have snow during the summer. An increase in global temperature of 6 Celsius degrees, certainly, we don’t want to see. Examples for this temperature are similar to scenes from a horror movie.

Today, global warming presents a danger for many islands and areas that are in contact with oceans. This warming process could cause glaciers melting and rising sea and ocean levels. This thing would mean the disappearance of many low altitude areas from our planet.

Because of same reasons, yesterday, was held a summit in Noumea between France and Oceania and the main issue discussed was the increasing level of water that threatens many Oceanic islands from Pacific. “We must reach a balance…to reduce greenhouse gases emissions, “ said French Minister Bernard Kouchner. Affected islands asked developed countries to reduce their pollutant emissions by 40% until 2020.The summit gathered several island-countries that have also discussed issues related to sustainable development and environmental protection.
