Algae Being Used For Making Ultra-Thin Batteries

30 November 2009 | Green Technology | 2 Comments

Algae come in great variety and are one of the most abundant life forms on the planet, so it would be very unpractical, not to find a use for them, even in today’s technologized world. But people have acknowledged the great potential of this organism, and after trying to develop a algae-based biofuel or building solar cells out of single-celled algae its time for the algaes to get involved in creating biodegradable batteries.

Self-Sufficient „Eco Shower” Saves Water and Electricity

29 November 2009 | Green Technology | 1 Comment

Industrial designer Paul Frigout recently proposed a self-sufficient concept shower able to reduce water and electricity consumption. Everyone loves a shower after a hard day, but even this simple activity involves a high consumption of water and electricity. This shower uses an ingenious system to produce electricity. Inside the showerhead there is a turbine that produces electricity when water pass through it. The electricity generated is used to heat the water.

Ozone Layer and Air Pollution

28 November 2009 | Green News | 3 Comments

Ozone is concentrated in the stratosphere at an altitude of 15-35 km. It is formed of O2 molecules passing through a photo-dissociation process. In the stratosphere, there is a balance between ozone formation and decomposition processes. Usually this balance is broken by a substance called ChloroFloroMethane coming from aerosols and cooling systems.

IceBank – Storing Wind Energy As Ice

27 November 2009 | Green Technology | No Comments

People are always searching for more efficient and economical solutions, always trying to keep things simple but also with a thought on energy costs. From an early time, man used ice to keep their food cooled. The ice was collected at so called “ice harvesting” sites and was the only way to refrigerate food, until the discovery of electricity.

World’s First Osmotic Power Plant in Norway

26 November 2009 | Alternative Energy | No Comments

Osmotic power is actually the energy resulted from the difference in the salt concentration between seawater and river water. In other words, if you want to obtain carbon-neutral energy you have to mix seawater with fresh water. Statkraft recently opened world’s first osmotic power plant in Norway.
