New Device Can Melt Snow and Filter the Water Resulted
27 April 2011 | Green Technology | No Comments
In their unstoppable race of exploiting every possible source of fresh water, people developed a new portable snow melting device that can purify water. Flux, as its creator Hugo Busbridge named it, is actually a bottle-like device, perfect for mountaineers who often remain stranded.
Being easy to carry everywhere and anywhere, this device can store snow and then convert it into clean drinking water. Today, mountaineers may know many other methods to melt snow, or many other methods to survive, but Flex is the only device that can help you stay alive in mountains without using shovels or chemicals.
HaloIPT’s Wireless Electric Car Chargers
13 April 2011 | Green Cars | No Comments
Recharging an electric car in motion using wireless EV chargers seemed more like a SF movie to me. But reading more carefully, I have found that the IPT (the Inductive Power Transfer) was already launched on the market. This system consist of: a wireless charging pad that look like an ordinary mat and a receiver pad that must be fitted inside your EV.
In addition, the electric car is an incredibly Eco-friendly invention because it doesn’t drink litres of fuel. If you are online, reading reviews on electric cars while you visit party poker and compare various car prices, you should also note that these cars are much smoother and quieter than regular vehicles. They have also been produced by various companies including Peugeot, Renault and Mitsubishi.
So, every time you’ll park your car over those wireless charging pads, they will recharge it (the system is based on the principle of inductive charging). Researchers have planned to install many of these wireless pads on roads, in order to allow people to recharge their electric vehicles while driving.
Banana Peels Could Purify Water Better Than Anything
13 April 2011 | Green Technology | No Comments
Brazilian researchers found a new way to purify water using banana peels. They have discovered that chopped banana peels could clean water more efficient than any other purification materials (can filter toxic metals such as lead or copper).
Today, many rivers or lakes could be possible sources of drinking water. But there is one major problem: often these waters contain heavy metals such as lead and copper. So, this new discovery could both help cleaning these waters and protect the environment at the same time.
George Fortin’s Homebuilt Z-Kart Electric Car

George Fortin revealed its homebuilt Z-Kart electric car. He shows us that building an electric vehicle at home is not anymore a big deal. By building this EV that looks like a buggy, Mr Fortin demonstrated his skills and I think he has big chances to grow in popularity across the world.
The Z-Kart was built in a regular garage, so it offers limited options. It is a one-person vehicle, with a range of 20 miles and a top speed of 40 miles/hr.
Even so, there are not many people able to build in their own garage a car that uses electricityto run.
The First Stable Artificial Leaf Was Developed by MIT Researchers

Researchers at MIT University have developed an artificial leaf that can utilize sunlight for “photosynthesis”. The leaf will help extracting hydrogen from water in order to produce clean electricity. Made of silicon, some electronic components and low-cost chemical catalysts, this artificial leaf represents an important advancement in the field of chemistry.
The first artificial leaf was developed ten years ago by John Turner of the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory. That leaf was unstable and could not produce energy constantly more than one day. Unlike it, the newly developed leaf can produced a constant output of power for 45 continuous hours.
