Genetically Modified Tobacco Leaves Could Produce The Most Efficient Biofuel
I’ve never thought that tobacco could be used for anything else besides “killing” our lungs, but it seems that Viaceslav Andrianov, Ph.D, professor of Cancer Biology at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University found that tobacco can be used in our tanks as any other biofuel. Perhaps this tobacco biofuel will help us quit smoking and at the same time will help reduce air pollution. After numerous tests, Professor Vyacheslav Andrianov concluded that tobacco is more effective than any other biofuel used until now.

63% More Efficient Solid Oxide Fuel Cell
SOFC (solid oxide fuel cell) is a new type of fuel cell developed by NGK Insulators, and it uses hydrogen gas as fuel.Researchers have found through experiments that this new fuel cell achived a LHV(lower heating value) of 63%.The output power produced by using this fuel cell is 700W at an operating temperature of 800 Celsius degrees. An important advantage of this 1,5 mm cell is that cause, can be stacked together, so the output power will be sevral times increased.
The Higher Productivity of Biological Materials
The long road from extraction of oil, coal or gas, through refining and complex industrial processes to finished chemical feedstocks is matched in the case of solar resources by planting, harvesting, storage, cleaning, drying, separation andtransport. In many cases, transport costs can be held to a minimum by growing the materials near the production plant.
The only disadvantage as far as productivity is concerned is the considerably greater need for personnel, although this also represents a significant social benefit.Giuliano Grassi has calculated that, for each terawatt of energy, natural gas requires 250 employees, crude oil 260, coal 270 and nuclear power 70, whereas producing solid fuels from crops requires 1145 employees and 1000 employees in the case of woodlands. The greater labour input probably also applies to the use of solar materials in the manufacture of chemical products in place of the equivalent fossil feedstocks. “The Sustainer”-First Mobile Biodiesel Generator
Solar energy, wind energy and a little ingenuity have made possible the realization of this complex system that produces biodiesel fuel. These technologies combined have resulted in a complex system,a not-polluting system, very efficient and with 0 exhaustible energy consumption. This type of system is very useful in poorer areas, like some places in Africa, where only 5-20% of the population has access to electric grid.Biodiesel professionals Solarix came with a new, complex, perfect solution for this problem.Future Cars Powered by Indian CottonSeed Biofuel
MyGreenTreasure contains many posts about hybrid cars, a wide variety of biofuels, cars that run with water, juice, beer….A recent study made by researchers from India has shown that future cars could be powered by cottonseed oil.Cotton is found in abundance in India, so researchers took this advantage, using cotton oil as a fuel. This biofuel proved to be very effective reaching close to diesel engine performance.“The researchers conducted experiments on a single-cylinder compression ignition diesel engine, which when fueled by cottonseed oil performed similar to a petroleum diesel fueled engine. The engine operating on the specific blended fuel actually showed improved emissions compared to the other fuels and fuel blends tested. The findings get even more promising as cottonseed oil is a comparatively low-cost source of bio-fuel as the cottonseed oil is only extracted from the seeds of cotton plants after cotton has been removed for other purposes. ” – www.ecofriend.org
VW Touran Minivan Runs on CNG and Gasoline
Hybrid car designers tried until now to combine gasoline with many other substances, or to combine gasoline engine power with electric engine power to reduce as much as possible CO2 emissions.Volkswagen has decided to put on the new VW Touran Minivan, the engine of 1.4 – liter TSI EcoFuel that works on both gasoline and compressed natural gas (CNG) reducing CO2 emissions, and protecting the environment.Natural gas is a fossil fuel but pollute less than gasoline. The car in the image above has 5 fuel tanks. One is for gasoline and has a capacity of 11 liters and the other 4 tanks are designed for methane gas storage (18 kilograms). With filled tanks, the car can travel approximately 370km.If the car runs on CNG fuel consumption is 4.7 and CO2 emissions are 126g/km.What Actually Biofuels Are?
The mankind has used biomass fuels for heating and cooking since the discovery of fire.Biofuels can appeared as solid, liquid, or gas fuel.Liquid biofuels have been used since the early days of the car industry.By burning biofuels in a furnace, steam is produced which can drive turbines to drive an electric generator.
The discovery and use of fossil fuels like coal, gas and oil, have dramatically reduced the amount of biomass fuel used in the developed world for transport, heat and power. However, biofuels are axpanding recently in all over the world as providing an alternative to imported oil, because they reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy security by providing an alternative to fossil fuels as in automotive transport and in gas turbine. As energy source in developed countries biofuel contribute about 15% of world’s energy requirements.
Biofuels can be produced from any carbon source that can be replenished rapidly as vegetable matter produced by agriculture and forests or from waste materials obtained from industry, commerce and residential homes, including agricultural waste as sugar cane, straw and chicken litter.Biomass is material derived from recently living organisms. It includes plants, animals, and their byproducts.Garden waste and corp residuel are all sources of biomass.By allowing fermentation in landfill sites or in special anaerobic tanks is also possible to produce methane rich gas to be used in gas turbines.
Biofuels are a renewable energy source based on the carbon cycle.Agricultural products specifically grown for biofuel production include corn and soybeans, wheat, sugar beet, sugar cane and palm oil.Biodegradable outputs from industry, agriculture, forestry and households can be used for biofuel production.
Biofuels and other forms of renewable energy aim to be carbon neutral. Therefore, the carbon released during the use of the fuel, through burning to power transport or generate electrical energy is reabsorbed and balanced by the carbon absorbed by new plant growth.Carbon neutral fuels lead to no net increase in atmospheric CO2 which means that global warming does not increase by this process.
Using waste biomass to produce energy can reduce the use of fossil fuels.Simultaneously reduce greenhouse gas emission and reduce pollution. In industrialized countries, biofuels are producing up 5% of electrical energy requirements.
5% More Efficient Biofuel Mixed with Polystyrene

“Dissolving polystyrene in biodiesel doesn’t eliminate the problem of harmful emissions, however. The scientists found that adding polystyrene increases the fuel’s emissions of carbon monoxide, soot, and nitrous oxides, which don’t burn completely in the engine. But the researchers hope to improve the engine’s fuel injection system to achieve a more complete burn with fewer emissions. If they can reduce the emissions, they hope that the technology could offer economic and environmental advantages for power generation.” – www.physorg.com
