One of Five M&M Candies is Produced with Solar Energy
Mars Company recently announced, that from now on they will use only renewable energy to produce those delicious candies. They will use a new photo-voltaic system of 2 mega watts and as you see in the picture above, these famous candies are already trying to catch the first rays of sun. For generating enough electricity the company has chosen to use a solar garden of 18 acres ( 73.000 square meters).
Google Uses Satellite Imagery to Track and Monitor Global Deforestation
Among many companies that are trying to slow down global warming, Google has been noted repeatedly, thanks to their intelligent monitoring software. Until now they have released different tools for ocean mapping and home energy consumption details and each of these proved to be very effective. Rcently, Google launched a new deforestation monitoring system that can identify areas where the forest is intensively exploited, using satellite imagery.
Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Fraction Remained Constant In The Last 150 Years, Study Reveals
The whole “carbon dioxide” puzzle is a lot more complicated matter than most scientist tend to think. Many new research that surfaced lately come to disprove most of their paradigms about this greenhouse gas. It represents about 0.04% of the Earth’s atmosphere but it is a vital gas for the Planet well-being. A major part of the carbon dioxide emitted through human activity does not remain in the atmosphere, but it is absorbed by the oceans and by the Earth’s ecosystems. Less than half, 45 percent, of the CO2 amount still lingers in the atmosphere. Also a new study comes now to show that for the last 150 years, the carbon dioxide fraction has not risen at all.
AIRS – NASA’s New Tool For CO2 Research Unveils Amazing Breakthroughs
NASA – the “National Aeronautics and Space Administration” developed a new tool for a better understanding of CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere, its movement and transport. The new device is called AIRS – “Atmospheric Infrared Sounder Instrument” and is placed on the NASA’s Aqua spacecraft. It takes daily measurements of concentration carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Third of Plants and Animals could Disappear due to Global Warming
Global warming is a phenomenon that can affect us, humans, but at the same time also can affect many plants and animals. Things that are happening currently on the planet are not simple at all. Researchers have realized about the seriousness of things and announced that a large number of animals and palnts should migrate to North to prevent global warming effects. Unfortunately third of these animals and plants, can not migrate at high altitudes and this is a serious problem.
New Enzyme Allows Plants to Grow in Dry and High CO2 Conditions
Increasing levels of CO2 in the atmosphere and reduction of water resources are two major problems on our planet. Despite these degradation processes, researchers at the University of California San Diego have discovered some plant enzymes able to solve these two problems simultaneously.
In other words, these special enzymes can allow plants to save water while consuming more carbon dioxide. In this way water resources will be saved and the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere will be reduced.
Human Blood to Help Capture CO2 Emissions
Biological systems have always been used to develop new technologies, and have proved to be very effective in different activity areas. Today, a New Jersey company is trying to reproduce a similar system in order to capture more efficiently carbon dioxide emissions.
Researchers started from the idea that in our body, the blood contains an enzyme able to capture two pounds of CO2 every day and convert it into bicarbonate. Then, when we exhale, the same enzyme converts the rezulted biocarbonate back into CO2.
Bioengineered Bacteria Transforms Carbon Dioxide Into Liquid Fuel
Just as reminded in an earlier post, the attention towards the tremendous potential of microorganisms, when it comes to its use in creating a fuel-alternative has been spotted as important all along. So this are the times the “fruits” of the years long research in the field of microbiology and its genetic manipulations are collected.
Global Warming: The Planet’s Future will be Decided in Copenhagen
Over the years, the earth climate has gone through several periods of heating and cooling. All these changes occurred slowly, due to natural factors, but now the earth climate has reached a level where any error caused by humans could be fatal.
The main factor influencing global warming is the greenhouse effect. This phenomenon is caused by human actions, and as scientists say, greenhouse gases in the atmosphere result in reducing the reflection of sunlight. This thing means nothing but excessive heating, so if greenhouse gases indicate a high density then the heating process will be very intense.
How to Convert Greenhouse Gases into Fuel
Researchers at Sandia National Laboratories from U.S. have created a machine that converts greenhouse gases into gasoline or diesel. This machine uses solar power, plus a series of chemical reactions and thus is able to transform carbon emissions into fuel. Researchers say that this type of machine could be used even under the ground to capture carbon dioxide.
How to Capture CO2 Emissions
CO2 released in the atmosphere is nothing but a source of environmental pollution, a factor with a huge role in global warming process. We all know that carbon dioxide is the result of fossil fuel combustion (coal, oil or natural gas). Currently, highest carbon emissions are produced by cars, trucks and non-nuclear power plants. Because of that, urban areas are considered as areas with high concentration of carbon dioxide. To reduce the effects of pollution, carbon dioxide can be captured and stored. Today, carbon dioxide effects on atmosphere is a controversial issue.
