Kia Borrego FCEV – An Electric Vehicle Powered by Hydrogen Fuel Cells

We have already discussed often times on MyGreenTreasure about electric vehicles or vechicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells but we’ve never written about a car that is an electric vehicle and at the same time powered by hydrogen. Presonaly i didn’t knew about such a thing, but  recently I read on a specialized website about a new Kia model, which is actually a FCEV ( Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle).

Audi Efficiency Challenge – Low Emissions, Low Fuel Consumption

audi_21Audi recently announced that they want to make an experiment to show once again the efficiency of their models over a distance of 4182 kilometers. The purpose of these experiments is to show that Audi products (Audi cars) are most effective if we talk about emissions and fuel consumption. This experiment is called “Audi Efficiency Challenge from A to B“, and will be presented to a group of 120 journalists, to show them that CO2 emissions and fuel consumption can achieve an ideal rate on 4182 km distance.

One of the most Important Sources of Green Energy

hydrogen_worldIn this post we will talk about a non-colored gas, odorless and also a non-toxic gas. This gas is actually called hydrogen (density is 0.09g/l, 14.4 times and weighs three times less than air). Hydrogen condenses at -252.77 °C and liquid hydrogen density is 71 g/L, which means it has the highest energy density per weight unit among all fuels: 1 kg of hydrogen contain energy equal to 2.1 kg of natural gas or 2.8 kg of oil.

Microfluidic Fuel Cells Could Provide Energy for Portable Devices

microfluidic-fuel-cellDaniel Spencer an engineer who recently finished studies at Meng in Electronic Engineering at the University’s School of Electronics and Computer Science, has found a new way to store electricity for portable devices.Daniel says that the energy source can not provide directly all the electricity and for this reason the electricity need to bestored in batteries.

Mixing Waste Products with Steam to Release Hydrogen

hydrogen_fuel_cell1Hydrogen is one of the elements that could replace fossil fuels in the near future, but still there is a problem in extracting hydrogen because of rised costs. With classical methods of obtaining hydrogen is generated a large amount of greenhouse gases emitted, which are not good for the environment. A cleaner way to obtain hydrogen was performed at Leeds, and it consists in mixing waste products with steam to release hydrogen.Aceasta method proved to be much cheaper and does not pollute the environment.

63% More Efficient Solid Oxide Fuel Cell

fuel-cellSOFC (solid oxide fuel cell) is a new type of fuel cell developed by NGK Insulators, and it uses hydrogen gas as fuel.Researchers have found through experiments that this new fuel cell achived a LHV(lower heating value) of 63%.The output power produced by using this fuel cell is 700W at an operating temperature of 800 Celsius degrees. An important advantage of this 1,5 mm cell is that cause, can be stacked together, so the output power will be sevral times increased.
