Alta Wind Energy Center will Power 600,000 Homes in Southern California

27 July 2010 | Wind Power | 2 Comments

After temperature, one of the most significant weather phenomenon in the Mojave dessert, is wind. Windy days are common across this region so, considering this advantage Terra-Gen Power has planned to build there, the largest wind power project in the country(Alta Wind Energy Center). A huge area of thousands of acres will be mobilized to generate energy for 600,000 homes in  Southern California. At a distance of about 75 miles north of Los Angeles, in the Tehachapi Pass, they will install hundreds of towering turbines which will generate, as they say, three times as much energy as the country’s largest existing wind farms.

Tight Competition for Building the World’s Biggest Offshore Wind Turbines

26 July 2010 | Wind Power | No Comments

Is human nature to want more than you have at a given time. We will never have enough money, reputation or success! We always want more! Same thing happened with British, American and Norwegian engineers. They are striving to build a giant wind turbine (Some people could call it “the holy grail of wind turbines”), twice the power and size of anything seen before. The engineers are in a race to design the world’s biggest offshore wind turbines which will generate over 10MW green power.

How to Build a Small-Scale Vertical Axis Wind Turbine

13 July 2010 | Wind Power | 2 Comments

There are many ways to produce free electricity, but one of the most inexpensive ways is to build a vertical axis wind turbine. In this post I will show you how to build a vertical axis wind turbine. After building this small wind turbine you can try to build a large scale wind turbine using same principles. So, let’s stop talking and start working! :)

Germans Get Paid To Consume Surplus Energy From Wind Farms

8 May 2010 | Wind Power | 1 Comment

A rather strange consequence of the inability of electricity providers to store the surplus energy gained from wind power occurs in northern Germany, where local inhabitants are getting paid for “forgetting” the lights on. The country’s 21,000 wind turbines produces so much power that the providers were “forced” to lower the bills in order to use this “extra” energy.

At times, windmills were even temporarily turned off, which sounds pretty unreasonable for a energy operator. It seems these companies have alone done them self harm, as total spending money for electricity in Germany will be shortened by 5 billion euros in a few years.

Video of How to Make a Vertical Wind Turbine At Home

9 April 2010 | Wind Power | 2 Comments

Instead of making a presentation with many details, exact figures and pictures I chose to post those two videos, in order to make easier to understand how you can build a vertical wind turbine at home. Using just some cheap materials, this guy managed to create his own wind power generator.  So, I invite you to watch these two videos and after that, I hope you will be able to build a similar system without spending too much money.
