When natural gas is used to power such trucks, economy is combined with ecology and the results are impressive. The first Econic NGT model was delivered to ALDI SÜD group of companies for food distribution so, in this way the company could carry large quantities of different products, with low co2 emissions and almost no particulate emissions.
Genetically Modified Tobacco Leaves Could Produce The Most Efficient Biofuel
I’ve never thought that tobacco could be used for anything else besides “killing” our lungs, but it seems that Viaceslav Andrianov, Ph.D, professor of Cancer Biology at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University found that tobacco can be used in our tanks as any other biofuel. Perhaps this tobacco biofuel will help us quit smoking and at the same time will help reduce air pollution. After numerous tests, Professor Vyacheslav Andrianov concluded that tobacco is more effective than any other biofuel used until now.
Remote Controlled LED EcoBulb Illuminates Only What is Required
All incandescent light bulbs are daily replaced with energy saving systems and that happens because people feel the need to reduce electric bills as much as possible. The most popular lighting systems, CFLs and LED bulbs, are going to replace soon all regular light bulbs. Designers have already started to add some improvements to these lighting systems for an easy and efficient use. The remote-controlled LED EcoBulb is a similar system, with some impressive features.
Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Fraction Remained Constant In The Last 150 Years, Study Reveals
The whole “carbon dioxide” puzzle is a lot more complicated matter than most scientist tend to think. Many new research that surfaced lately come to disprove most of their paradigms about this greenhouse gas. It represents about 0.04% of the Earth’s atmosphere but it is a vital gas for the Planet well-being. A major part of the carbon dioxide emitted through human activity does not remain in the atmosphere, but it is absorbed by the oceans and by the Earth’s ecosystems. Less than half, 45 percent, of the CO2 amount still lingers in the atmosphere. Also a new study comes now to show that for the last 150 years, the carbon dioxide fraction has not risen at all.
DoCoMo Cellphone Harvests Kinetic Energy Generated by User Movements
NTT DoCoMo, one of the largest mobile communication companies in Japan, plans to launch a new eco-friendly mobile phone (NTT DoCoMo Touch Wood), made of recyclable materials. This new cellphone will be powered by kinetic energy generated by user movements. Japanese company believes that by the year 2020, the market will be invaded by completely different cellphones. This new eco-cellphone will have attached a small flip-top screen and will be able to display an image in the air like a hologram.
Six Minute Charging Technology for Electric Vehicles
If you have an electric vehicle, you may know that the most frustrating moment is when you want to recharge your batteries. Recharging batteries often takes several hours and this is not a good thing because today time is very precious. For these reasons, researchers have tried to find more effective ways to solve the problem and it seems they have succeeded. The EDISON project was initiated by Siemens Energy Sector in Denmark and its main purpose is to develop more efficient charging technology for electric vehicles.
CO2 Emissions Could Generate Noise Pollution in the Oceans
Since CO2 emissions started to grow, researchers have begun to warn us of the seriousness of this process, using different scientific discoveries related to negative effects of carbon dioxide. Last days, some researchers at the University of Hawaii have discovered that along with the increasing level of CO2 emissions, increases the acidity of the oceans and seas too. When ocean acidity increases, sound-absorbing chemical reactions are reduced and that means the sound will spread in the water faster and noisier.
Audi Q5 Hybrid Will be Available in America Until 2011
When we talk about good cars, we always have to talk about all big German manufacturers, which continued throughout the years to launch on the market powerfull ,effective and elegant cars. You may have noticed that in recent years, all the cars we know have started to “turn” into electric cars, hybrid cars or 100% environmentally friendly cars. The same thing happened in Germany, where almost all big companies have already launched on the market hybrid versions of their most popular cars. Mercedes launched few months ago the new hybrid model ML450 and now Audi announces the launch of the Q5 hybrid model which will appear on the market by the end of 2011.
AIRS – NASA’s New Tool For CO2 Research Unveils Amazing Breakthroughs
NASA – the “National Aeronautics and Space Administration” developed a new tool for a better understanding of CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere, its movement and transport. The new device is called AIRS – “Atmospheric Infrared Sounder Instrument” and is placed on the NASA’s Aqua spacecraft. It takes daily measurements of concentration carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Kia Borrego FCEV – An Electric Vehicle Powered by Hydrogen Fuel Cells
We have already discussed often times on MyGreenTreasure about electric vehicles or vechicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells but we’ve never written about a car that is an electric vehicle and at the same time powered by hydrogen. Presonaly i didn’t knew about such a thing, but recently I read on a specialized website about a new Kia model, which is actually a FCEV ( Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle).
Third of Plants and Animals could Disappear due to Global Warming
Global warming is a phenomenon that can affect us, humans, but at the same time also can affect many plants and animals. Things that are happening currently on the planet are not simple at all. Researchers have realized about the seriousness of things and announced that a large number of animals and palnts should migrate to North to prevent global warming effects. Unfortunately third of these animals and plants, can not migrate at high altitudes and this is a serious problem.
Excessive Irrigation has led to a Decrease in Monsoon Rainfall in Northern India
Human actions on the environment and generally all land-use decisions can drastically influence climate change. Recently, a scientist from Purdue University have proved that these actions have affected Indian monsoon rains. His research shows that in the last 50 years monsoon rainfall decreased dramatically in rural areas because irrigation was excessively used to increase agriculture. “In the rural areas, we’re seeing premonsoon greening occurring two weeks earlier than what it did 20 years back as the demand for agricultural intensification to feed India’s people increases”.
Chizhevsky Chandelier Harvests Static Electricity from Air
Lately, researchers have found plenty of ways to produce electricity, using different technologies. It turned out that one of the most effective ways to produce electricity is to use renewable energy sources. So far we have discussed on MyGreenTreasure about several ways to produce electricity (using solar energy, wind energy, kinetic energy, etc.) but today I will present to you a new and revolutionary device, capable to produce static electricity from air.
Panasonic’s Li-ion Battery Can Store Electricity for One Week of Use
When we talk about energy storage and batteries, we often think of those devices which helps us to power our gadgets. So, we use batteries for mobile phones, laptops, but could we use batteries to power an entire building? Panasonic Company says “Yes”! They recently announced the launch of a lithium-ion storage battery for home use. After they bought 50% stake in Sanyo, Fumio Otsubo, president of Panasonic said: “We’ll be the first to bring to the market a storage battery for home use, which can store sufficient electricity for about one week of use.”.
Retinal Implants Powered by Onboard Flexible Solar Cells
Recently, I have read on the internet about a very interesting device and I couldn’t refrain to post about it on MyGreenTreasure. It’s about a photovoltaic chip, able to improve human eyesight (especially for those with damaged photoreceptor cells). These cells are able to capture the light, forming on the retina, the image we look for. Due to the growing in age, or often even from birth, these cells are weaker than it should be and that’s why the problems appear.
Black Soot Could Be The Cause Of Melting Himalayas
The Himalayas are the highest mountain system on the Planet. Home to more than 10,000 glaciers and with over 100 peaks, each exceeding heights of 7,200 m, the Himalayas are , even if surprisingly for some, also the place where one of the Earth’s largest fresh water resource is located, being third only after the North and South Poles. It is dependent to the life of so many people and if were to be polluted in any way it would bring hazard to many countries. Some new research suggest that the cause of the melting Himalayas could be just that: pollution.
BMW ActiveE All-Electric Sedan will be Unveiled in Detroit
The car that we can see in the image, I think it is the greenest car of the week. When we talk about BMW we have to talk about power, safety and comfort, but also about high prices. These high prices are due to higher quality, but also are due to high fuel consumption. So, BMW recently announced the launch of the second electric car after the Mini E. The car is actually an all-electric sedan with a big trunk(approximately 200 liters).
