Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Fraction Remained Constant In The Last 150 Years, Study Reveals

2 January 2010 | Green News | 4 Comments

The whole “carbon dioxide” puzzle is a lot more complicated matter than most scientist tend to think. Many new research that surfaced lately come to disprove most of their paradigms about this greenhouse gas. It represents about 0.04% of the Earth’s atmosphere but it is a vital gas for the Planet well-being. A major part of the carbon dioxide emitted through human activity does not remain in the atmosphere, but it is absorbed by the oceansĀ  and by the Earth’s ecosystems. Less than half, 45 percent, of the CO2 amount still lingers in the atmosphere. Also a new study comes now to show that for the last 150 years, the carbon dioxide fraction has not risen at all.

AIRS – New Tool For CO2 Research Unveils Amazing Breakthroughs

30 December 2009 | Green Technology | 1 Comment

NASA – the “National Aeronautics and Space Administration” developed a new tool for a better understanding of CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere, its movement and transport. The new device is called AIRS – “Atmospheric Infrared Sounder Instrument” and is placed on the NASA’s Aqua spacecraft. It takes daily measurements of concentration carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Black Soot Could Be The Cause Of Melting Himalayas

22 December 2009 | Green News | No Comments

The Himalayas are the highest mountain system on the Planet. Home to more than 10,000 glaciers and with over 100 peaks, each exceeding heights of 7,200 m, the Himalayas are , even if surprisingly for some, also the place where one of the Earth’s largest fresh water resource is located, being third only after the North and South Poles. It is dependent to the life of so many people and if were to be polluted in any way it would bring hazard to many countries. Some new research suggest that the cause of the melting Himalayas could be just that: pollution.

New Enzyme Allows Plants to Grow in Dry and High CO2 Conditions

18 December 2009 | Green News | No Comments

Increasing levels of CO2 in the atmosphere and reduction of water resources are two major problems on our planet. Despite these degradation processes, researchers at the University of California San Diego have discovered some plant enzymes able to solve these two problems simultaneously.

In other words, these special enzymes can allow plants to save water while consuming more carbon dioxide. In this way water resources will be saved and the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere will be reduced.

Bioengineered Bacteria Transforms Carbon Dioxide Into Liquid Fuel

12 December 2009 | Alternative Energy | No Comments

Just as reminded in an earlier post, the attention towards the tremendous potential of microorganisms, when it comes to its use in creating a fuel-alternative has been spotted as important all along. So this are the times the “fruits” of the years long research in the field of microbiology and its genetic manipulations are collected.
