Economically speaking, converting a gasoline/diesel powered car in an electric vehicle would bring a series of benefits. You will get a vehicle that costs only a few cents per mile to run and moreover, your car will be environmentally-friendly. Now, the conversion simply consists in replacing your old engine with an electric engine. Usually, a conversion like this will cost you about $9000 ($6000 – the engine and $1500-$3000 – for batteries and installation). If you want to get a lower price you will have to use an older engine and some cheaper batteries (you can negotiate on price so everything depends on you). I’ll just tell you what you have to do.

1. First, you’ll need a car. I suggest you to use a small car. If the car is bigger, then the engine must be stronger and therefore more expensive. You should also take into account that the batteries are not really cheap (you can try to buy some parts from <noindex>www.electroauto.com</noindex> ).

2. The second step is to throw all that lies under the hood (all that is gasoline related) and I refer to: Engine, Gas tank, Coolant tank, Exhaust, Muffler, Starter, Radiator and Fuel lines and filter. Removing these parts, your car will be much lighter and much easier to be propelled by the electric motor. You can also sell the parts you’ve removed to get money for your new electric engine.

3. After you have bought and installed the new engine, you must find a way to set up transmission. I think this is the most difficult thing to do because is depending on your new engine model and your old transmission. In order to make things work, you’ll need a special adapter to line up with both the transmission and the end of the motor (you can build it or buy it – is nothing but a piece of metal that serves to connect the transmission with the electric engine).

4. You can use the original coupler or you can try to use a “Lovejoy”-style connector like in this <noindex>video</noindex>. Now you need to line up the motor and transmission, using the coupler between them and the adapter plates. You can use many methods to make transmission work, but you have to ensure that your car is safe to drive (you can get help from an auto service).

5. Your car will need many 12V batteries, depending on your electric motor. Arrange the batteries in your trunk or in any empty place in your car. The electrical connections between the batteries and your engine must be high quality connections. You should also boy a switcher and charger for your batteries (here you can use controllers from ElectroAuto).

That’s it! You can figure out that is not too easy to convert a car into an electric vehicle. If you are not very good in mechanics, recommend you to ask for help from an auto service. Good luck!

For beginning researchers planned to create a 43.5KW rapid charge capability for a 20 minute charge on a 400V 63Amp connection.

If you have an electric vehicle, you may know that the most frustrating moment is when you want to recharge your batteries. Recharging batteries often takes several hours and this is not a good thing because today time is very precious. For these reasons, researchers have tried to find more effective ways to solve the problem and it seems they have succeeded. The EDISON project was initiated by Siemens Energy Sector in Denmark and its main purpose is to develop more efficient charging technology for electric vehicles.

I think EDISON project will be a success because it is coordinated by some very serious research centers (Technical University of Denmark, Denmark Dong Energy, Eurisco R&D center, IBM and Siemens). The real purpose of the EDISON project is to develop a 300KW system that charges the batteries in six minutes, but for beginning researchers planned to create a 43.5KW rapid charge capability for a 20 minute charge on a 400V 63Amp connection. Recharge batteries in just 6 minutes…sounds nice for all EV owners, but switching the batteries on and off in such a short period (6 minutes) could affect the drid. Researchers planned also to test these fast-charging systems using alternative energy (wind powered stations).

Hummer H3E model appeared, an improved version of classic model, a hybrid Hummer that consume around 2.4 l/100km.

In European countries and many countries of Asia we know the most popular hybrid car manufacturers. But despite these statistics, America has its own creations, very effective car models and very popular hybrid models.

One of the most popular cars created in America, I think is <noindex>Hummer </noindex>model. Hummer was always a very popular, powerful car but have two major disadvantages: a large amount of fuel consumed and a high level of CO2 emissions (pollute the environment). These two problems have been solved when Hummer H3E model appeared, an improved version of classic model, a hybrid Hummer that consume around 2.4 l/100km.

You may ask how it is possible that a big Hummer to consume only 2,4l/100km… it is possible, because the new Hummer H3E is powered by an electric engine with an onboard power extender. You can run 40km, powered by the electric motor, and then a small gasoline engine, recharge Hummer batteries. Raser Technologies states that H3E model can run 600km before refuelling.

Hummer H3E was presented yesterday at a conference about “alternative energy sources”, in California, where Arnold Schwarzenegger, California governor, said that he is proud of this model, and also said that he was present when this concept was born. Probably, this hybrid model will be the main transportation vehicle in America in the next few years, and certainly one of the best cars worldwide.

This hybrid car combines power with precision and innovation but at the same time with responsibility. The technology behind this car is the latest technology, that lead to obtaining a special power and great performances.

But lately people have started to complain of many drawbacks of this hybrid.
