Lithium-Air Batteries – Likely To Be The Most Important Breakthrough For Deposing Gasoline
With no viable alternative to gasoline oil in sight, the search for a more environmentally-friendly solution is still on, but, as it turns out, the day gasoline is to be displaced is years away, as current research standings seem to indicate. Nevertheless, some favorite gasoline replacements have come to light. One of them certainly is the lithium-air battery. As far as its capability goes, the arrival of this technology will surely produce great excitement in the scientific community, as well as for most energy corporations.
Bioengineered Bacteria Transforms Carbon Dioxide Into Liquid Fuel
Just as reminded in an earlier post, the attention towards the tremendous potential of microorganisms, when it comes to its use in creating a fuel-alternative has been spotted as important all along. So this are the times the “fruits” of the years long research in the field of microbiology and its genetic manipulations are collected.
Green Treasure – Algae Being Used For Making Ultra-Thin Batteries
Algae come in great variety and are one of the most abundant life forms on the planet, so it would be very unpractical, not to find a use for them, even in today’s technologized world. But people have acknowledged the great potential of this organism, and after trying to develop a algae-based biofuel or building solar cells out of single-celled algae its time for the algaes to get involved in creating biodegradable batteries.
New Eco-Route ESP Module From Garmin Helps Saving Fuel
With all this eco talk taking place all over the world, the need for some fast and easy solution for the environment is great. We know that all the fuel powered vehicles produce vast amounts of pollution in the air, even with all the emission standards and regulations practiced all over the globe and that they should be replaced soon by a more environmentally-friendly ones, like the electric cars. But until then, most of us must stick to the petroleum based fuel cars and try to make them as “green” as possible. Well, a little help comes from Garmin, which has created a new module for their nuvi line of GPS equipments to devise a new route, that is not the shortest, nor the fastest, but the greenest.
The New Citroen C-Zero – Zero Emissions, 100% Electric
The new model from the french car manufacturer, Citroen, is the company’s second electric car, after the Berlingo van. Based on the earlier version of the Mitsubishi iMiev, the new car will be available as from late 2010 and it will be deprived of 5000 euros from the French government, as a bonus to buyers who pick environmentally-friendly models.
Ultracapacitor Buses – More Greener And Cheaper
The search for more economical and fuel-efficient buses have led engineers from building hydrogen-fuel transit vehicles to hybrid-electric ones. But, as it turns out, the most environmentally-friendly and cheapest way to power buses proved to be the ultracapacitor buses. At least that is what a Chinese company, Shanghai Aowei Technology Development Company, and its partner for the U.S.A, Sinautec Automobile Technologies, states.
Charge Your Electronics With Voltaic Backpacks Made From Recycled PET Bottles

The invention of the solar cells, those devices that convert the energy of light into electrical energy, was really a bliss to mankind. The first solar cells were created in 1954 by three American researchers, Gerald Pearson, Calvin Fuller and Daryl Chapin, out of very thin stripes of silicon capable of about six percent conversion efficiency. After more than 50 years, today’s highest solar cell conversion is 22%. They were also the first ones to create solar panels.
Shweeb – The Bicycle On A Monorail

Shweeb is a interesting new concept, where you push your way in a capsule mounted on a monorail, using only the power of your feet. Built in late 2007 in Roterua, New Zealand, Shweeb is suspended about 4 meters in the air and is 200m long. To add more to the excitement, the designers thought it would be more fun if two persons could race one another, so they build two parallel monorails.
Samsung – Major $4,3B Eco-Investment

Eco, Eco, everybody Eco ! A green revolution is taking place ! It seems they can’t get enough of it. Another major Korean electronics company, Samsung, is ready to do a major $4,3 billion (5.4 trillion Korean won) eco-investment into more environmentally-friendly, energy-efficient products for company’s plans to reduce carbon gas emissions in the production section, by 2013, Samsung officials announced last week.
Solar charger for iPhone and Blackberry

Green Treasures – Racing goes environmentally friendly
Racing doesn’t always have to be about the first car to reach the finish line. In an attempt to promote more green and fuel-efficient technologies, some auto races today prize those cars that have the best results in the “green” department. It means that more and more races will also be judged after the energy efficiency or greenhouse-gas emissions of the racing cars.
The Green Racing Initiave is a group that deals just with that: using the motor sport competitions (because of it’s rapid change in high-tech technologies using) to haste the development of more efficient and cleaner vehicles to latter be used in the public domain. First founded in 2006, they marked their first success at the American Le Mans Series, in October 2008.
