Black Soot Could Be The Cause Of Melting Himalayas

22 December 2009 | Green News | No Comments

The Himalayas are the highest mountain system on the Planet. Home to more than 10,000 glaciers and with over 100 peaks, each exceeding heights of 7,200 m, the Himalayas are , even if surprisingly for some, also the place where one of the Earth’s largest fresh water resource is located, being third only after the North and South Poles. It is dependent to the life of so many people and if were to be polluted in any way it would bring hazard to many countries. Some new research suggest that the cause of the melting Himalayas could be just that: pollution.

The Planet’s Future will be Decided in Copenhagen

9 December 2009 | Green News | 1 Comment

Over the years, the earth climate has gone through several periods of heating and cooling. All these changes occurred slowly, due to natural factors, but now the earth climate has reached a level where any error caused by humans could be fatal.

The main factor influencing global warming is the greenhouse effect. This phenomenon is caused by human actions, and as scientists say, greenhouse gases in the atmosphere result in reducing the reflection of sunlight. This thing means nothing but excessive heating, so if greenhouse gases indicate a high density then the heating process will be very intense.

How to Convert Greenhouse Gases into Fuel

4 December 2009 | Green Technology | No Comments

Researchers at Sandia National Laboratories from U.S. have created a machine that converts greenhouse gases into gasoline or diesel. This machine uses solar power, plus a series of chemical reactions and thus is able to transform carbon emissions into fuel. Researchers say that this type of machine could be used even under the ground to capture carbon dioxide.

Mixing Waste Products with Steam to Release Hydrogen

11 July 2009 | Alternative Energy | No Comments

Hydrogen is one of the elements that could replace fossil fuels in the near future, but still there is a problem in extracting hydrogen because of rised costs. With classical methods of obtaining hydrogen is generated a large amount of greenhouse gases emitted, which are not good for the environment. A cleaner way to obtain hydrogen was performed at Leeds, and it consists in mixing waste products with steam to release hydrogen.Aceasta method proved to be much cheaper and does not pollute the environment.
